About the Owner

Well, let's see...more about me, past and present...

I'm a (late) thirty-something (ok, almost 40) woman who has been crafting (and selling what I made) ever since I was about 12.  I rarely ever knit or crochet anymore, but my mom and grandma taught me how when I was in grade school.  Instead of running around on the playground I was teaching my fellow Catholic grade school classmates how to knit and crochet during recess!

I used to do a LOT of cross stitch.  I'd still like to work on cross-stitch again, but it is very time consuming.  Beading is "instant gratification" since it takes a fraction of the time to get a project done.  I've made countless items which I used to sell in a local consignment shop.  But it's been quite a while now since I've picked up a needle to stitch.  This June at the Bead and Button Show I picked up a new tool call the Diva Cord Maker, and found a new use for my still massive collection of embroidery floss.  Some of my jewelry items for sale will be strung on cord I made myself.

My favorite hobby the past few years has been making jewelry.  I remember the last time I bought a hand-made pair of earrings (and paid $27 for them) I thought, "ya know, I bet I could do this myself!" and that was the last pair of earrings I bought aside from those that I cannot possibly make myself!

About  my Jewelry...

I'm a fashion/costume jewelry designer.  My goal is to create unique, affordable, fashionable jewelry that is versatile and fun to wear.  I would describe my style as feminine, but not overly "girly."  Classic, but not "June Cleaver."  Simply stated, but not "simple."

Most of my necklaces are Princess length, between 17-19".  I do typically add a little extender chain to most of my pieces so it gives the wearer some flexibility to wear it with different necklines.  I also like to experiment with different length styles, some of which allow you to wear it in about 5 different ways by doubling it, making it into 2 separate necklaces, etc.

I love to work faceted glass beads, semi-precious gems, and pearls - both freshwater and glass.  I also like to use chain.  One of my favorite styles to create is what I like to call "dangly".  I think it's a fun look in either bracelets or necklaces.  I gravitate towards neutral, earthy colors - browns, taupes, pinks, greens, but my collection spans a wide range of colors.

I also focus on affordable, for both myself and for my customers.  I know there is a formula for pricing hand-made jewelry, but I tend to look at it from the perspective of the customer, and what I myself would be willing to pay for the item.  Metal prices have skyrocketed over the past few years (I used to get sterling silver wire for about $7/oz, today it's almost $17.)  In order to keep costs down I use base metal and silver-plated chains and findings.  For my ear wires, which I create myself, I use sterling silver wire.

Other stuff...

Being a creative person I also got into creating web pages too.  Check out a few others that I have made for family and friends - www.centrallakescountryhomesllc.com , (my brother's company) and www.jimwozniakdesignsllc.com  (my dad's!)  I come from a long line of creative people!

When I'm not busy playing with beads or my jewelry business, I'm working my full-time job, and selling Avon, and taking classes at my local YMCA, and spending time with my husband.  Whew!  I could really use a few more hours in the day!
