Engagement Rings Can be More Than Diamonds

Diamonds are supposed to be a girl's best friend, but the traditional diamond engagement ring has become rather boring. Also, today's cost-conscious couples are finding that a diamond ring can be a big waste of money. My name is Laurie, and I am here to tell you that engagement rings can be just about anything you want them to be. Dare to think outside the box and come up with a ring that is truly an expression of your own personality and your love for your intended. You can choose any stone or no stone, and your engagement ring can be part of your wedding ring or not. It's all up to you!

Caring For Your Diamond Earrings: Dos & Don'ts

You may have received them as a gift, or maybe you even decided to treat yourself. In either case, a brand-new pair of diamond earrings is something to be admired. Flashy and sparkly under the store lights, these earrings can really be beautiful when they are first purchased. Unfortunately, a lot of people who invest in diamond earrings are a bit surprised at just how quickly this jewelry can lose its luster. To make sure your new diamond earrings stay as sparkly and eye-catching as the day you brought them home, there are a few dos and don'ts to keep in mind.

Do: Clean your earrings every day after they've been worn.

If you wear your diamond earrings often, it is a really good idea to at least wipe them down with a soft cloth at night when you take them off. The oils from your skin and grime that can get picked up through the day can really dull the sparkle of the diamonds over time. A soft cotton cloth will do really well to slough away any contaminants that have landed on your diamonds throughout the day, whether it is hairspray, skin oil, or otherwise.

Don't: Sleep in your new diamond earrings.

Your beautiful studs or teardrops may be your new favorite thing, but make sure you part with them when you go to bed. Sleeping in diamond earrings can mean more opportunities for the precious metal surrounding the stones to get scratched and scuffed. For example, if you have zippered pillowcases on your pillows, it would be quite possible to scrape your ear against the jewelry through the night and leave a scar.

Do: Soak your earrings in a cleaning solution occasionally.

You don't necessarily have to soak your new earrings every time you wear them, but it is a good idea to do a good soak on occasion in a quality jewelry-cleaning solution. This soak breaks down any grime that has become stuck on, which can be hard to get rid of in tiny crevices like between the diamonds and their pronged settings.

Don't: Leave your diamond earrings on in the shower.

Even wearing your diamond earrings in the shower can be a bad idea. Chemicals in soaps, shampoos, and water can affect the hue of your diamond in the long term. For example, people who use well water sometimes have a high level of iron in their water, which can cause the diamond to take on a rusty tint that can be hard to remove.
